A custom WordPress shop and showcase for Jo Slade, featuring her paintings, prints, workshops, gallery-only work, and exhibitions around Bath and the surrounding landscape.
Overview
Jo Slade is a Bath-based artist focused on rural landscape and atmospheric light: sunrise, sunset, and the way shadow falls on the land. She needed a site that could showcase that work beautifully while handling real business rules: some pieces sold online, some only through partner galleries, plus classes and exhibitions to promote.
I built a custom WordPress and WooCommerce theme from scratch, with no page builder. Custom ACF Gutenberg blocks power the homepage, about content, painting showcases, and contact areas, while WooCommerce runs the shop. Paintings and prints can be bought online with AJAX add to basket. Gallery-only products show price and availability text but stay off the checkout, for work sold through venues such as Corsham and Bedminster. Workshop products carry date, time, and location through to the product page, cart, and order details, and stay separate from the main painting catalogue where needed.
An exhibitions and events section lists upcoming and past shows with its own archive. The front end uses GSAP, ScrollTrigger, smooth Lenis scrolling, and scroll animations so the site feels as considered as the paintings, without getting in the way of browsing or buying. Stripe handles payments, and the admin stays straightforward for Jo to update paintings, classes, and events as her practice grows.
